Shh! A Tip to Help with Classroom Management

Today’s Tuesday Teaching Tip is another poem to help you get your class calm and ready to listen.

If you can hear me, put your hands on your head.
If you can hear me, put your hands on your shoulders.
If you can hear me, put your hands on your hips.
If you can hear me, put your hands on your lips.

Have a peaceful day!

My favorite activity to quiet a class for a few minutes when you need to answer the phone, talk to a visitor, or help with a bloody nose…. a game called “QUIET MOUSE”. Pick up a little stuffed mouse, or a mouse wand, sit quietly in your chair and say “I am looking for someone who is sitting quiet as a mouse.” The class immediately gets quiet, I pick someone and tap them on the shoulder ( or nod to them or whisper their name) and that person gets to sit in the teacher’s chair. Voila! Peace and Quiet for two minutes! Teach the game by modeling the correct way to sit in chair, walk to chair without touching anyone, how to GENTLY tap the next Quiet Mouse.
