Kindergarten Math: Sing the Days of the Week
Make learning the days of the week a snap (hehe) with this cute little song that will have your kids singing along in no time!
To the Adams Family Tune:
Days of the week. (Snap, snap).
Days of the week. (Snap, snap).
Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week. (Snap, snap).
There’s Sunday and there’s Monday,
There’s Tuesday and there’s Wednesday,
There’s Thursday and there’s Friday,
And then there’s Saturday.
Do you have a favorite way to teach the days of the week? Please share!

Love these easy teaching ideas. I have a friend that, every time the students highlight the day of the week on the calendar, they all “Read the Calendar.” First they count the numbers of days gone by thus far as she points to the numerals. Then they say the days of the week as she points to them on the calendar. The repetition day after day, helps it sink in. After the first month or two, when kids know this very well, they Read the Calendar sporadically.
I teach the months of the year with the Macarena song (instrumental version). We dance through the year! January, February (hands go palm down in front), March, April (hands go palm up),May, June (cross arms with hands on shoulders), July, August (hands go to your bottom), September, October (hands up behind head), November, December (hands on each thigh), Hey, That’s the wole year! (jump up and turn 1/4 turn to begin again to the next wall)
We sing the days of the week to the tune of “Down by the Station…” and on the second go around the children hold up a hand and say “Stop!” on the current day of the week.
“On Tuesday it would sound like this:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday… then we begin again.
Sunday, Monday, Tues… (the children are so excited to say “Stop” that you can’t get through the whole word!)
Today is Tuesday, Tuesday, all day long.
