CKA Co-President and Transitional Kindergarten teacher Debra Weller shares this great traditional call and response with us:

Oh John the Rabbit
Got a mighty habit
(Yes, Ma’am)
Jumping in my garden
(Yes, Ma’am)
Eating up my cabbage
(Yes, Ma’am)
My sweet potatoes
(Yes, Ma’am)
My fresh tomatoes
(Yes, Ma’am)
And if I live, to see next fall
(Yes, Ma’am)
There won’t be no cotton at all.
(Yes, Ma’am)

We love how call and response poems provide a great, topical way to ease your class through a transition, or re-group in the middle of an activity.  Not to mention how we love anything that weaves rhyming through the day!

While we’re on the topic of rabbits (and spring), here are some books that feature them:

Do you use any call-and-response type poems with your students?  We’re always eager to learn new ones!  Do you read any of these books to your students?  Have a different favorite bunny book?  Please share!
